BMW recall issued with possible fire risk on some models
BMW has announced a safety recall affecting certain 2012-2018 models, citing a potential defect in the water pump's electrical plug connector that could pose a fire risk.
The recall, made in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, includes the BMW 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series, 5 Series, Z4, X1, X3, X4, and X5 models. According to BMW, liquid from the vehicle's positive crankcase ventilation system could leak onto the water pump’s electrical connector over time, potentially causing a short circuit. In rare cases, this could lead to a fire.
BMW has notified vehicle owners about the recall but stated that repairs are not yet available. A follow-up notice will be sent once the remedy is ready.
The company advises owners to be vigilant for smoke from the engine compartment, a potential sign of the issue. Should smoke be detected, drivers are urged to stop operating the vehicle immediately.
BMW plans to inspect and replace the affected water pumps and connectors as needed when parts are available.
